Formal VS. Informal Learning Environments:

To me, 'formal' learning environments are, off the top of my head as follows:
-teacher+student
-time-bound
-rules-bound (rules set in advance by someone other than the learner)
-credit/grade based
-accreditation / certification offered
-regular, scheduled participation
-monitored
-checked (e.g., attendance, appearance, obedience to the rules)

'Traditional' formal learning environments are those that are textbook & desk-based.
These days, there is a lot of alternative/online learning going on, but they may still fit many of the criteria I listed above.

So what I need to get clearer on is what constitutes a strictly 'informal' learning environment. Simply, it is the opposite of the above:
-peer-to-peer
-unstructured
-rules created as we go along
-no grading, credits, or accreditation offered/sought
-irregular, unscheduled participation
-unmonitored
-unchecked (doesn't make a difference whether you are there today, gone tomorrow;
